Vol. 39 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Secretary's Pension.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the late Secretary of the Roscommon County Council, Mr. Heverin, is paid a pension from the rates of the county, or if any deduction is made from grants payable to the Council in respect of the said pension.

The annual allowance paid to Mr. Heverin, the late Secretary of the Roscommon County Council, is not a charge on the rates of the county, and no specific deduction is made from grants payable to the County Council in respect of the said allowance. The amount available for grants to local authorities generally is, however, abated by the amount required to pay annual allowances to Mr. Heverin and others in accordance with the provisions of the Local Officers (Compensation) War Period Act, 1924.
