Vol. 39 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - The Great Southern Railways—Expenditure in Shop Extensions.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has made, or intends to make, any representations to the Great Southern Railways with regard to the expenditure of £100,000 in shop extensions by the Company as included in the terms of settlement by arbitration of a dispute with the railway shopmen with reference to conditions of employment in 1929.

A proposal by the Great Southern Railways Company for shop extensions at Inchicore has been before my Department. Further progress with the proposal, and a definition of its scope, depend on whether adequate financial arrangements can be made to meet the expenditure that would be involved.

Mr. Doyle

May I ask the Minister if he hopes to be in a position to give sympathetic consideration to these proposals?

Certainly, but adequate financial arrangements would not entirely depend upon me.

Mr. Doyle

Has the Minister any information that the Company proposes making provision for the extension of their works so that they could execute orders for outside firms?

I have only the plans for the extension. I do not know the purpose.
