Vol. 40 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dáil Loan Claims.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of claims for Dáil Loan payments, that do not appear to have been registered, received from the parish of Abbeyknockmoy, Co. Galway, and whether any claims were registered from that parish; whether any claims have been paid, and what steps he proposes to take with a view to the repayment of the £380 subscribed in and forwarded from that area.

The compilation in an exact form of the information asked for by the Deputy in the first, second and third parts of the question would involve an amount of labour which would not in my opinion be justified.

With regard to the last part of the question, I may say that, in view of the fact that no list of subscribers or other particulars which can be identified as relating exclusively to the parish of Abbeyknockmoy were received in the Dáil Department of Finance at the time the Loan was raised, there is nothing to show that a sum of £380 was subscribed in that area. The claims of subscribers from Abbeyknockmoy are, however, being dealt with as speedily as possible.

Mr. Jordan

Would the President be satisfied that the amount of money I state, £380, was subscribed if a receipt in the handwriting of a District Justice can be procured for that amount, and will he accept an affidavit from this man that he forwarded the £380 to the Dáil Eireann Loan Department?

The Deputy had better put that question to the Minister. I do not know sufficient about the details of the working of the Department to answer the question.
