Vol. 40 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Tramway Employees.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is his intention to introduce proposals for legislation to provide compensation for dismissed workmen on the traction side of the old Cork Electric Lighting and Tramway Company who lost their employment as the result of the taking over of the latter undertaking by the Electricity Supply Board.

Unless a definite source from which it is agreed that a compensation fund for this purpose could be provided was indicated to me, I could not take any steps in this matter.

Would the Minister say what his attitude would be to an amendment proposed to the Transport Bill, which, among other things, would provide for compensation out of Government funds for these men?

I think I would ask to have it ruled out of order.
