Vol. 41 No. 2

Vote 56—Industry and Commerce.

I move:—

Go ndeontar suim bhreise ná raghaidh thar £10 chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1932, chun Tuarastail agus Costaisí Oifig an Aire Tionnscail agus Tráchtála, maraon le Coiste Comhairlitheach na Rátaí.

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £10 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1932, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Office of the Minister for Industry and Commerce, including the Rates Advisory Committee.

The purposes for which this sum is required have been adequately explained on the Estimates. The amount under sub-head H (1) is due to depreciation in the currency, the contribution to the League of Nations having to be paid in gold. The expenditure under sub-head K arises out of certain transactions that took place in 1926 during the coal strike in that year. These small items represent freight charges and law costs in connection with a cargo of coal shipped on behalf of the Government in that year. Sub-head L represents a payment of £1,500 out of the total grant of £2,000 which will be made out of the Vote for the Department of Industry and Commerce in respect of a grant to the Cork Industrial Fair for the erection of a hall of industry. Grants are being given by the Government for various purposes in connection with the Fair, but this is the sole part of it that concerns the Department of Industry and Commerce—a sum of £2,000 to build a hall of industry, out of which it is proposed to pay £1,500 in the present financial year.

Vote agreed to.
