Dáil Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 25 May 1932

Vol. 41 No. 18

Late French President.

I desire to acquaint the Dáil that I have received from the President of the Executive Council, Minister for External Affairs, a copy of a letter received by him from His Excellency the Minister for France to the Irish Free State, of which the following is a translation:—

Legation de France en Irlande.

21st May, 1932.

Monsieur le Président,

With reference to my letter of the 13th May concerning the Resolution passed by Dáil Eireann on the occasion of the death of President Doumer, I have the honour to inform Your Excellency that the President of the Council, Minister for Foreign Affairs, has asked me to express his thanks to Dáil Eireann, and to the Government of the Irish Free State, for having proposed the vote of sympathy.

The Government and people of France were deeply moved by the Resolution.

I shall be very much obliged if Your Excellency would be so good as to express to the House the gratitude of the Government of the Republic.

Accept, Monsieur le Président, the assurances of my highest consideration.

(Signed) ALPHAND,

French Minister.

I will have the letter entered in the Journal of the Dáil.
