Vol. 42 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Officials.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that within the past six months substantial increases in salary have been granted to certain higher officials of the Dublin Corporation following the passing of the Local Government (Dublin) Act, 1930; if he is also aware that the work of the lower officials has increased without any corresponding increase in their remuneration, and if in view of this fact he will state on what grounds this increased remuneration of the higher officials was sanctioned and whether sanction for similar increases in the case of the lower staff came before his Department, and, if so, with what result.

I am aware that some officials of the Corporation have been granted increases of salary, based on increased duties and responsibilities consequent on the passing of the Local Government (Dublin) Act, 1930. I am not aware that there has been any general increase in the duties which fall to be performed by members of the junior staff, which has been considerably augmented by the absorption of officers of the abolished bodies. No application for sanction to increased remuneration of the lower grades generally has been made to my Department, although some junior officials have received increased remuneration.
