Vol. 42 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Promotion of Tanning Industry.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when he expects to be in a position to make known the details of the scheme he proposes to introduce to help the tanning industry as promised in his speech on the tariff on footwear, in the Dáil on the 13th May.

Proposals to give effect to my statement referred to in the question are at present under consideration, and I hope to lay them before the Dáil at an early date.

Will the Minister consider particularly the towns where the tanning industry has been operated before?

It would be undesirable, I think, to make a statement prior to the presentation of the proposals. The main intention will be to revive the industry where it has existed and particularly to revive the industries which are at present in existence.
