As the Deputy has already been informed, the Land Commission have not been able to obtain clear possession of the lands on the McKim and Heather estates from the owners, but the appropriate steps are being taken in both cases with a view to getting possession as early as possible.
I would like to know from the Minister if any developments have taken place in connection with these estates since the date of my last question?
The matter is in the hands of the solicitor for the Land Commission and I am informed he is taking all steps possible to expedite it.
I would like to know from the Minister why the Land Commission did not follow the usual procedure in this case?
The Deputy may know more about that than I do. The Deputy knows that in February, 1930, an order for possession was made and for two years he did not seem to get excited about the urgency of it.
The judge made no order for possession.
The order was made by the Judicial Commissioner.
I would like to know from the Minister why the Land Commission did not follow the usual procedure and approach the judge for orders for possession of these two estates, in view of the fact that possession is deliberately withheld, at least in one case?
Legal steps will be taken, if necessary.
I would like to know from the Minister whether, before these schemes are finally approved, he will take steps to see that the claims of deserving applicants, uneconomic landholders in the vicinity of the farms, will receive favourable consideration and that holdings will not be dished out, as they have been in other parts of the county, to supporters of the late Government as a reward for political services?
