Vol. 43 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Financial Dispute Tribunal.

asked the President whether he is aware that Mr. Joseph Devlin, M.P., has suggested the submission of the financial dispute between the British and Irish Governments to a tribunal consisting of two nominees of each Government chosen from within the Commonwealth, with Mr. Devlin himself as Chairman, and whether such a tribunal would be acceptable to the Executive Council.

I have no official knowledge of the suggestion to which the Deputy refers, and the matter has not been considered by the Executive Council.

Arising out of the President's reply, might I ask whether the primary object is to obtain a fair tribunal or whether he objects in principle to any tribunal composed of members solely of the Commonwealth of Nations?

I do not think that arises on this question at all.
