This Vote becomes necessary in view of the fact that the Estimates of Expenditure for the current year have not been approved of by the Dáil, and that further provision is necessary in order to enable the public services to be carried on until the Dáil resumes after the Recess. The original Vote for the year amounted to £7,864,470. The Vote now asked for amounts to £7,323,900. This includes the Supplementary Estimates which have been voted by the Dáil since the commencement of the present financial year. In former Votes on Account approximately one-third of the total supply was asked. In most cases, under the present Vote on Account, the same quota is required. I do not think there is anything else that need be said in this matter. The Opposition are perfectly familiar with the procedure. It is not the first time that a second Vote on Account has been asked by the Government.
