Vol. 45 No. 7

In Committee on Finance. - Vote 56—Industry and Commerce.

I move:—

Go ndeontar suim bhreise ná raghaidh thar £800 chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1933, chun Tuarastail agus Costaisí Oifig an Aire Tionnscail agus Tráchtála, maraon le Coiste Comhairlitheach na Rátaí, agus Ildeontaisí-i-gCabhair.

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £800 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1933, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Office of the Minister for Industry and Commerce, including the Rates Advisory Committee, and sundry Grants-in-Aid.

This arises out of the undertaking that the Government would provide £6,500 out of public funds for State participation in the Irish Industrial and Agricultural Fair at Cork in 1932.

Is this a guarantee or a grant?

Is this in order to enable the Fair to be carried on for a further period?

You close down your liability with this sum?

So far as the operation of the Fair during this year is concerned, yes, but the Ministry has the matter under consideration and will probably come to the House again at a future date asking them to provide a further grant to enable the Fair to be reopened next year on the undertaking that the Fair is organised upon a different basis.

What is the sum mentioned for this year?

£6,500 was the grant this year.

That was the total sum including buildings.

The buildings being there now the new sum will be £6,500 in cash?

It will not.

What will it be?

I am not going to disclose it now. It will certainly not be £6,500 or anything like it.

Is there no mention of any sum?

This has nothing to do with next year's Fair.

Question put and agreed to.
Resolution reported and agreed to.
