Vol. 46 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kinsale Merchants' Seed Oats.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider the remission of the extra duty of £10 per ton levied on a consignment of seed oats landed in Cork on the 3rd March for a Kinsale seed merchant seeing that the order did not come into force till the 7th March and that the merchant was unable to get delivery from the transit shed in the meantime.

On inquiry it has been ascertained that the merchant concerned, although duly advised by the shipping company on the 4th instant, of the landing of the consignment of seed oats, took no steps to effect its clearance from the Customs charge until the increase in duty became operative. In the circumstances, duty was legally chargeable at the rate of 15s. per cwt.
