Vol. 46 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Single Men With Dependants.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the regulations of his Department have yet been varied to permit of any number of single men with dependants being employed on relief works.

Certain unforeseen causes of delay have arisen effecting alterations in the instructions regarding the selection of men for employment on relief works. New instructions involving, amongst other things, the question of the employment of a proportion of single men, are under consideration by the Departments concerned and will, I hope, be promulgated at a very early date. At the moment, however, the reply to the question is in the negative.

Will the Minister consider the advisability of going into all the matters raised in this question, such as cases where people have small pensions of 5/-, 6/- or 7/- a week?

These matters are not raised in the question.

There are a lot of matters that might be considered carefully by the Minister in that connection.

The Deputy may be assured that they will all be considered.
