Vol. 46 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seedmen and Nurserymen.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the hardship caused to seedmen and nurserymen in the Saorstát in consequence of the British tariffs imposed under the Horticultural Products (Emergency Customs Duties) Act, 1931, and if he will state whether he proposes to take any steps to give them relief.

I assume the Deputy refers to the duties imposed on the imports of flowers, etc., under the Act mentioned. As part of the general arrangements to meet the situation created by these and other duties, a bounty is payable in respect of exports of horticultural and nursery products exported from this country up to the 31st March, 1933, and subject to these duties. I should add that the matter of continuance of the bounty arrangements to meet this situation is under consideration.
