Vol. 47 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing in Donegal.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state how many applications for grants under the Gaeltacht Housing Scheme are approved but held up for want of funds in County Donegal.

Applications are approved only within the limit of the available funds and no approved case is therefore held up for want of funds.

Arising out of the Parliamentary Secretary's reply, might I ask him if he is not deliberately trying to chop logic in order to conceal the facts? Is it not true that a very large number of applications have been approved of by the Department as eligible for the grant and that these people are awaiting their money because there is no money available at present in the Department? Will the Parliamentary Secretary not agree that there are at present a large number of people in the Donegal Gaeltacht who are qualified for grants but are unable to go on with the reconstruction of their houses or the erection of new houses because the Government has not available the money for this purpose? Is the Parliamentary Secretary trying to sail off in that way?

I have nothing to add to the reply that I have already given.

Might I inquire if the Parliamentary Secretary is deliberately attempting to evade the question I put down?
