Vol. 47 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export Bounties and Subsidies.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the different classes of produce and amounts for each class which go to make up the sum of £2,450,000 which it is proposed to provide for the payment of export bounties and subsidies and the basis on which the bounties are calculated.

Export bounties are at present payable on the following products:—

A. Agricultural:

Live Cattle

Live Pigs

Sheep & Lambs

Bacon and Hams

Mutton & Lamb

Pork

Beef and Veal

Pig Offals

Butter and other Milk Products

Grass Seed

Eggs

Potatoes

Dead Poultry

B. Industrial:

Biscuits

Brewers and Distillers Grains

Mine & Quarry Pro ducts including Slates

Horticultural & Nursery Goods

Linen and Cotton Piece Goods and Manufactures

Margarine.

Woollen & Worsted Manufactures

Smoking Pipes

Jute

Basic Slag

Feathers & Curled Hair

Glass Bottles

Blacking and Polishes

Iodine

Shirts, Collars and Hosiery

As the amount estimated to be required for payment of bounty upon each class of produce is only an approximation and as changes in the apportionment of the estimated total sum may take place, I am not prepared to furnish detailed figures.

The bounties payable are based upon the individual circumstances of the commodities affected. There is no basis of general application.

Is the sugar subsidy included in the sum that the Minister has mentioned?

The sugar subsidy is not a bounty upon an exported product.

Perhaps I might remind the Minister that that is the figure he gave in the Budget for subsidies and bounties.

For export bounties and subsidies on exports.
