Vol. 47 No. 17

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Entertainments Tax on I.A.B.A. Competitions.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount of entertainments tax levied off the receipts for attendance at competitions held by the Irish Amateur Boxing Association during the financial year ended the 31st March, 1933.

The Revenue Accounts are not kept in such a way as to give the information desired by the Deputy.

But cannot the Minister segregate these receipts from the various other receipts? Surely it can be only a very small matter of bookkeeping?

It is not a matter of bookkeeping at all. It is not possible to do it.

Why is it not possible? Surely the Minister knows the number of boxing tournaments which have been held and it is very easy to discover the amount of taxes which were levied from each. It is only a matter of very small research.

If the Deputy were aware of the manner in which the entertainments duty is generally paid he would realise that it would not be possible to segregate the returns in the manner he describes.

Would the Minister explain to the House why it is not possible? What is the inefficient book-keeping that renders it impossible?

I am afraid that is a separate question.
