Vol. 48 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Laoighis Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he has received a memorial from a large number of persons living in the vicinity of the Barrow Meadows (Grattan Bellew Estate, County Leix), protesting against the recent division scheme and requesting a revision of same and whether he can now state what action, if any, he proposes to take concerning same.

The memorial to which the Deputy refers has been received and will be considered in connection with the lands still unallotted on the Grattan Bellew Estate at Vicarstown. The area acquired by the Land Commission on this Estate was 485a. 1r. 10p., and of this area some 370 acres have been allotted and the allottees have executed agreements for purchase in respect of their parcels.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary give an assurance that the small holders who had grazing rights previously on this estate will be provided for in any further scheme of division that may take place?

Due consideration will be given to the claims of the smallholders in the area.
