I move amendment No. 3:—
To delete lines 11, 12 and 13.
This amendment is to correct a mistake in the title. As the Bill was printed in the white print it provided for the payment of compensation out of the Central Fund. It was subsequently decided to provide compensation out of moneys to be provided by the Oireachtas, but the necessary change in the title was not effected at the time.
I want to put a question to the Minister. I want to ask the Minister would it be possible to include within the provisions of this Bill persons who left the employment of the company before this Bill becomes an Act?
I am afraid not. That would open the gates very wide. I am not altogether happy in my mind about the way things stand now. In theory, it would work out that some of those people whose loss is an indirect consequence of the Shannon scheme may get more compensation than those who suffered a direct loss, and who would be entitled to compensation under the original Bill.
I quite appreciate the Minister's difficulty, but there are some cases apart which I know of. I have knowledge of those cases. There is the case of widows, for instance. There are cases of persons who died before applications were made to the Minister for compensation. Those cases have been brought under my notice, and I was instructed to ask the Minister would it be possible to bring those persons within the ambit of this Bill?
We have gone so far that I am surprised Deputy Hogan has not risen to talk about the Killaloe fishermen.
