Vol. 50 No. 6

Supplementary Estimates—Leave to Introduce.

I move:—

That leave be given by the Dáil to introduce the following Supplementary Estimates for the services of the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1934, namely:—

Votes Nos. 7 (Old Age Pensions), 17 (Rates on Government Property), 44 (National Health Insurance), 64 (Army), 65 (Army Pensions).

When will the Estimates be circulated?

Immediately, with the exception of No. 64, which will probably not be circulated until to-morrow.

When is it proposed to take them?

To-morrow if the Dáil sits.

Will No. 64 be circulated to-morrow and discussed to-morrow?

That will depend on the Opposition. If they are ready to discuss it to-morrow we shall be prepared to discuss it, but if not we shall let it stand over.

If the other Estimates, with the exception of No. 64, are discussed to-morrow that ought to be sufficient. We have not seen No. 64 yet and have no information about it.

I gather from the supplementary question that the Deputy wants to have information on No. 64. Accordingly, we are prepared to meet him in that regard and let him have that information and a discussion at the earliest opportunity. Of course, if the Deputy wishes to postpone the discussion, we will agree to that.

I am submitting that it would be unreasonable to ask for a complete discussion on an Estimate that we are not to see until to-morrow.

And we want a discussion, not the gag and the guillotine.
