Vol. 50 No. 11

Trade Loans (Guarantee) (Amendment) Bill, 1934.—Report and Final Stage.

I move that the Bill be received for final consideration.

Question put and agreed to.

I suggest that the Fifth Stage be taken now if there is no objection.

Agreed.

I move that the Bill do now pass.

I should like to ask the Minister a question. I do not know if it arises specifically on this Bill, but as the Bill deals with the matter of giving trade loans in respect of the building of houses, I should like to ask if the Minister is making any arrangements to get information from persons engaged in the building industry as to the number of private houses that are being built. There has always been a great difficulty in ascertaining how many houses are being built in the country other than houses built with the assistance of Government grants.

I do not know that I have any machinery which would enable me to procure that information. It does not arise under this Bill because it is certainly not intended that the Trade Loans (Guarantee) Act should be used to further private housing operations. If the Deputy would put down a Parliamentary question I shall try to get what information is available on the point.

Question put and agreed to.
