Vol. 51 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cottiers' Half-acre Plots.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state (a) what was the amount of the loan raised by the Kilmallock District Council in the year 1912 for the purchase of additional half-acre plots for cottiers; (b) what were the conditions of repayment of same; (c) what amount, if any, remains outstanding and (d) how many plots were acquired by this means.

The reply to the several parts of the question is as follows:—

(a) A loan of £10,000 was obtained in 1913 by the former Kilmallock Rural District Council for the acquisition of additional half-acre allotments of land for existing labourers' cottages in the district; a supplemental loan of £5,000 to complete their acquisition was obtained in 1915. (b) Both loans were obtained from the Minister and Leinster Bank for a period of 17 years at 4 per cent. (c) The first loan is paid off and on the 30th September, 1933, a sum of £309 was outstanding on the supplementary loan. (d) 470 additional allotments were provided.
