Vol. 51 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Position of Town Tenants.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that the existing law affords no adequate protection to the great majority of town tenants; whether he is prepared to introduce proposals for legislation to secure better protection and more adequate safeguards for the occupiers of town dwellings generally, and when such proposals for legislation will be introduced.

I am awaiting the report of an Interdepartmental Committee which is at present considering, amongst other matters, the question of excessive rents in urban districts. In the meantime, I am not prepared to make any statement on the subject.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, can he indicate when the report of the Departmental Committee is likely to be received?

I shall try to get it as soon as possible.
