Vol. 51 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turbary Plots in Co. Mayo.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he is aware that John Durcan, Kilquire, Kilmaine, County Mayo, and 14 other tenants on the De Clifford estate were provided with free turbary plots in Ballycushen Bog by the Congested Districts Board in 1918; that the Irish Land Commission have recently sent demand notes for rent for those bog plots; if he is aware that the tenants have refused to pay any rent for such plots which they have enjoyed free for the past 16 years, and if he will state whether the Land Commission will discontinue further proceedings for the collection of such rent.

The matter referred to is being investigated, and I shall reply to the Deputy by letter as soon as I have ascertained all the facts.
