asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the number of persons insured under the Unemployment Insurance Acts classified according to the main industrial groups at the 1st April, 1st July and 1st October in each of the years 1931, 1932 and 1933, and (b) the number of persons so classified who were on these dates registered as unemployed and having claims to benefit current.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Registered Unemployed.
As the reply involves a number of figures, I will circulate with the official report a statement giving the desired particulars so far as they are available. I am not in a position to furnish the particulars asked for in the second part of the question, but the statement shows the total numbers of unemployment insurance books remaining lodged at exchanges and branch employment offices, i.e., those in respect of persons having claims to benefit current plus those who had exhausted their benefit in the previous two months, and who were still known to be unemployed.
Following is the statement:—
(a) Total number of Unemployment Insurance Books current at the following dates: 1st March and 1st October in each of the years, 1931, 1932 and 1933. The numbers for 1931 and for October, 1932, are classified according to Industry groups.
