Vol. 51 No. 12

Appointment of Public Accounts Committee.

I move:

That in accordance with Standing Order No. 109 a Select Committee to be designated "The Committee of Public Accounts" be appointed; and that the members of the Committee be nominated by the Committee of Selection;

That the Committee have power to send for persons, papers and records.

Do I understand that it has been decided to discontinue the practice of discussing in the Dáil reports of the Public Accounts Committee? It is now, I think, two or three years since we last discussed a report of the Committee. Am I to assume that this committee which is to be appointed will simply issue its report and that the House will have no opportunity of discussing it?

The Deputy will have an opportunity of raising that question when the report appears.

Ordered accordingly.
