Vol. 51 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laoighis Waterworks and Sewerage Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether the plans and estimates for the provision of a waterworks scheme for Stradbally (£3,600) and sewerage schemes for Portlaoighise (£11,000), Mountmellick (£10,300) and Mountrath (£10,000) have been sanctioned by his Department; whether the area of charge has been fixed in each case; whether he can now state the amount of the free grant to be made available for each of the schemes mentioned and when such information will be communicated to the Laoighis County Board of Health.

The reply to the first and second parts of the question is in the negative. The schemes will be considered when the funds provided for the relief of unemployment are being allocated later in the present financial year. No indication as to the amount of the grant that may be made available for any of the schemes can now be given.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say whether, in accordance with the promise he made on 8th June last year, he has submitted any recommendation to the Minister for Finance on the matter?

We are not aware of the amount of money that will be made available in the coming year for the operation of such schemes and we are not in a position to make any representations regarding any particular scheme. As soon as we get an indication of the amount of money that will be made available under the Budget for public health schemes, the matter will be taken up with the Finance Department.
