Vol. 52 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farmers and Grain Admixture.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will ask the agricultural instructors in Munster and particularly in County Cork to compile reports on the present position of farmers and cottiers engaged in pig rearing in relation to the admixture of oats and maize with a view to considering the whole question in the light of such reports.

The general question of the effect on the pig rearing industry due to the introduction of the mixture of maize and home-grown grain was fully examined by the Pig Industries Tribunal, and I am in constant touch with the situation through the reports supplied by the inspectors employed under the Agricultural Produce (Cereals) Act. If at any time it should appear from these reports that the present regulations as to the maize meal mixture are imposing undue hardship on pig feeders, immediate action will be taken with the object of cheapening the mixture.

Mr. Murphy

I desire to give notice that at the earliest and most opportune moment at which I can raise this matter, I shall raise it in some form or other, either on the adjournment or on the Estimate.
