Vol. 52 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Alleged Hostility to Witnesses.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state whether he has received a report that on the 28th April a crowd of some hundreds of persons assembled outside the Courthouse at Drogheda and jeered and boohed State witnesses as they arrived; and that some among them attacked the driver of a motor car by throwing eggs at him; and if he will state whether any persons have been charged with these offences.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. I understand that any demonstration that took place occurred as one of the State witnesses left the Courthouse, and was not of a serious character. As regards the second part of the question my information is that one egg was thrown at and hit the side of a car in which the driver was sitting. No persons have been charged.
