asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he can state the number of persons in County Wicklow who have made application under the Unemployment Assistance Act, 1933, for qualification certificates; the number of such persons to whom qualification certificates were issued prior to 21st May; the number of persons who have lodged applications for unemployment assistance and the number of such applications sanctioned for payment.

Figures for County Wicklow are not compiled separately. A total of 3,370 applications for qualification certificates were made up to the 19th May, 1934, at the five local offices, namely, Arklow, Bray, Wicklow, Baltinglass and Blessington, of my Department which are situated in County Wicklow, and up to and including the same date qualification certificates had been issued to 1,139 of these applicants. On the 22nd May, 749 persons had applications for unemployment assistance at these offices, and on the 17th May unemployment assistance was paid to 533 persons at these offices.
