Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance in West Cork.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he can state in respect of the employment exchanges at Bantry, Dunmanway, Skibbereen, Clonakilty, Bandon, Castletownbere and Kinsale (a) the number of persons who have applied under the Unemployment Assistance Act, 1933, for qualification certificates; (b) the number of such persons to whom qualification certificates were issued prior to the 21st May; (c) the number of persons who before the 1st May made application for unemployment assistance, and (d) the number of such applicants to whom payment has been made.

(a) The number of persons who had applied for qualification certificates up to and including the 21st May, 1934, at the Branch Employment Office, Bantry, was 1,428; at Dunmanway, 1,232; at Skibbereen, 1,829; at Clonakilty, 836; at Bandon, 643; at Castletownbere, 1,550, and at Kinsale, 436.

(b) The number of persons to whom qualification certificates were issued up to and including the 21st May, 1934, at the Branch Employment Office, Bantry, was 73; at Dunmanway, 192; at Skibbereen, 324; at Clonakilty, 138; at Bandon, 209; at Castletownbere, 42, and at Kinsale, 104.

(c) On the 1st May, 1934, there were five applications for unemployment assistance current at the Branch Employment Office, Bantry, 45 at Dunmanway, 57 at Skibbereen, 12 at Clonakilty, 104 at Bandon, 12 at Castletownbere, and 44 at Kinsale.

(d) Payment of unemployment assistance was made to 14 applicants at the Branch Employment Office, Bantry, on the 17th May, 1934; to 59 at Dunmanway, to 48 at Skibbereen, to 37 at Clonakilty, to 87 at Bandon, to 16 at Castletownbere, and to 29 at Kinsale.
