Vol. 53 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grange and Johnstown Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what is the delay of the Board of Works in obtaining sanction for tapping water mains at Moorpark, County Cork, in connection with the Grange and Johnstown water scheme; if he is aware that the scheme has now been held up for a year; and if he will state when it is proposed to act in the matter.

The proposal of the Cork County Board of Public Health to provide a water supply for the district of Grange and Johnstown by tapping the main at Moore Park, Kilworth, necessitated an exhaustive examination to ascertain whether the suggestion was feasible and whether the extent of the water supply at the source was sufficient to cope with all demands, having particular regard to the possibility of seasons of drought. It has now been decided that, subject to the provisions of the State Lands Act, 1924, a licence will be granted to the board of health to tap the main as proposed, and the necessary statement to comply with Section 2 of that Act will be laid before the Oireachtas at an early date.
