Vol. 53 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Broadcast News.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the sources from which broadcast news is obtained; whether news from news agencies is supplied; and, if so, on what terms; further, whether reports of the proceedings of the Houses of the Oireachtas are or have been supplied by the Government Information Bureau; and, if so, whether in view of the terms of a recent broadcast of a speech of the President's, arrangements will be made to prevent such undesirable occurrences in future.

News for broadcasting is obtained from the following sources: Dublin News Correspondent, Cork News Correspondent, Department of Agriculture, Dublin Stock Exchange, Salford Cattle Market, Meteorological Office, Foreign Wireless news. It is not supplied by news agencies.

Reports of the proceedings of the Oireachtas are not, and have not been, supplied by the Government Information Bureau. It is the policy of the Government that the broadcast news should be given without comment.

Can the Minister say why that particular speech of the President was allowed to be broadcast?

Mr. Boland

I think that was dealt with in a statement I made immediately after the broadcast was made. My statement was published in all the papers.
