Vol. 53 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hospital Sweepstake Trust Funds.

andMr. Desmond asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the total amount of payments made out of the Hospital Sweepstake Trust Funds to the various hospitals in Cork City; when the last payment was made thereout; how much they are now entitled to, and when it is proposed to pay it; and if he is aware that in expectation of the periodical receipt of these grants the different managing committees have expended a large sum in providing new equipment for and enlarging these institutions.

The total amount paid to voluntary hospitals in Cork City is £314,571 17s. 9d.; the last payment was made on the 4th instant; no payments have been made in respect of hospitals administered by local authorities in Cork City. The requirements of these institutions are being investigated by the Hospitals Commission and pending the receipt of its report I am not in a position to deal with the other points raised by the Deputies.
