Vol. 53 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Deduction from Agricultural Grant.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the period in respect of which the total amount of £33,958 was deducted from the Agricultural Grant which would otherwise have been paid to the South Tipperary County Council, and if, with reference thereto, his attention has been directed to the report of the Commissioner for Tipperary in the County Buildings, Clonmel, and published in the Clonmel Chronicle of 2nd June.

The deduction falling to be made from the share of Tipperary (S.R.) County Council in Local Taxation Grants is in respect of arrears of Land Purchase Annuities for the year ended March, 1934. The arrears of annuities as at March last exceeded the county share in the Estate Duty Grant by a sum of £33,957 12s. 10d., and of this amount a sum of £18,554 10s. 0d. has been deducted from the balance of the share of the Agricultural Grant for 1933/34.

I have seen the published statement of the Commissioner.

Has the Minister no reply to make to the second part of the question?

I have seen that report. That is all I can say.

But surely, in view of the statement of the Commissioner, and in view of the fact that we have now no council, we might expect a statement from the Minister with regard to the second part of the question. It was for that I put it down, and if the Minister only says "Yes, I have seen that report," I have only to say that, in view of the importance of this matter, I ask for permission to raise it on the adjournment.

Please yourself.
