Vol. 54 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Scoil Eithne, Dublin.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the number of children who are on the waiting list at Scoil Eithne, Marlborough Street, Dublin, and if he will state the age range of these children and why these children are not admitted to the school.

There is no "waiting" list kept at Scoil Eithne. The existing accommodation at the school is fully taxed.

Is the position then that no waiting list is kept in respect of this school in order not to disclose the number of children desirous of being sent into this school? Is the Minister aware that it is stated that there are about 200 children anxious to enter this school who are not being allowed to enter it?

The Deputy ought to appreciate that there is a limit to the amount of accommodation which can be provided in these schools. We cannot educate children from Skerries to Dun Laoghaire in the same schools.

Is the Minister aware that the children waiting to go into this school are entirely from the City of Dublin; and, in view of the statements the Minister has made as to the assistance he requires from parents to restore the Irish language in the country, will he say what he is prepared to do to help parents who are bringing up their children as Irish speakers and who are anxious to get them into this particular school?

That is a separate question.
