Vol. 54 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Meath Annuitant.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that Mrs. M.E. Domigan, owner of lands, out of which an annuity is payable, situate at Carnes West, County Meath, has received a letter dated 23rd November, 1934, from the Irish Land Commission informing her that unless the amount of the arrears of annuity due by her amounting, including costs, to £9 0s. 2d. be paid by a certain date they will have no option but to instruct their solicitors to offer the holding for sale by public auction; and, further, if such a letter has been dispatched, to ask under what authority the Irish Land Commission purport to authorise their solicitors to offer the lands in question for sale.

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is in the affirmative. As regards the second portion of the question, under Section 18 of the Land Law (Ireland) Act of 1887 and Section 32 of the Land Act, 1927, the Land Commission are empowered to offer for sale the holdings of defaulting tenant purchasers.

Then this means that an attempt is going to be made to evict this woman from her holding? Would the Parliamentary Secretary answer that question? Does the Parliamentary Secretary now announce the commencement of a campaign of eviction in this country? The Parliamentary Secretary does not answer.

He cannot.
