Written Answers. - Income Tax.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state with reference to income tax collection, (1) the gross income, and (2) the actual income, derived in the years 1929/30, 1930/31, 1931/32, 1932/33, 1933/34, and 1934/35 (estimated) from (1) ownership of lands, houses, etc., Schedule A; (2) profits from the occupation of lands, etc., Schedule B; (3) from Saorstát, British, Dominion and foreign government securities, Schedule C; (4) from business, professions, etc., Schedule D; (5) by way of remuneration in respect of employment, Schedule E, and the (1) total gross income, and (2) total actual income for each of these years.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in relation to income tax collection (1) the total amount of actual income; (2) the amount of the allowances from actual income in respect of (a) earned income, (b) personal allowance; (3) the total of such allowances (4) the total taxable income; (5) the net produce of the tax; (6) the produce for each penny of the normal rate of tax, and (7) the average effective rate of tax levied on each pound of actual income, for the years 1932-33 and 1933-34.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in relation to income tax collection (1) the gross income; (2) the total amount of exemption in respect of (a) incomes not exceeding the exemption limit, (b) charities, hospitals, friendly societies, etc., (c) British or foreign dividends belonging to persons not resident in Saorstát Eireann; (3) the amount of reductions in respect of (a) repairs, lands and houses, (b) empty property, (c) wear and tear of machinery or plant, (d) other reductions and discharges, and (4) the total amount of such exemptions and reductions for the years 1932-33 and 1933-34.

I propose to take Nos. 17, 20 and 21 together. With regard to Nos. 17 and 20, the following are estimated figures for the year 1932-33:—

It is not possible at present to provide an estimate of the figures for the year 1933-34.

With regard to No. 21, the figures for the years 1929-30, 1930-31 and 1931-32 (estimates) appear in the Ninth Annual Report of the Revenue Commissioners, which is the latest published Annual Report of the Revenue Commissioners and may not have been available when the Deputy's question was being set down. The Deputy will find the figures by consulting Tables 86 and 87 (page 104) of that Report. The following are estimated figures for the year 1932-33:—

It is not possible at present to provide an estimate of the figures for the years 1933-34 and 1934-35.

The Deputy will understand that the statistics given relate to assessments actually made in the years referred to, irrespective of the "years of assessment" concerned (that is, the years in respect of which the assessments were made) or of the time when the tax was collected.
