Vol. 55 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Relief in Laoighis and Offaly.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of applications received from or through local authorities or individuals in Laoighis and Offaly since March 31st, 1933, for grants from the Vote for the relief of unemployment; the number examined and sanctioned up to the present, the amounts already allocated for the year ending 31/3/35, and the total estimated cost of works examined and for which grants have not yet been allocated.

The figures desired by the Deputy are not available in the form in which they are asked for, and their compilation would involve an amount of time and labour which would not be justified by the result.

What is the meaning of the Government's attitude in inviting applications for suggested useful works, if there are hundreds of such works from this constituency lying in the Department and, apparently, no money available to carry them out?

That is another question.

For the purpose of making up another new "plan."
