Vol. 55 No. 4

Public Business. - Defence Forces (Temporary Provisions) Bill, 1935—Second Stage.

I move: That the Bill be now read a Second Time. I do not propose to make any lengthy statement on this stage of the Bill, as the Army Estimate will be before the House within the next couple of weeks. I thought last year, when introducing the Temporary Army Bill, that it would be the last year in which we would have it, but, owing to unfortunate delays, it has not been possible to have the permanent measure prepared in time for this year. However, it has now gone through all its stages, and I hope to have it in the Parliamentary draftsman's hands next week.

Question put and agreed to.
Ordered: That the Committee and remaining stages of the Bill be taken later to-day.
