Vol. 55 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mr. More O'Ferrall's Denial.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that Mr. G. More O'Ferrall has made a written denial of the statement that he informed members of the Gárda Síochána that he did not want police around his house, and whether the Minister will state by whom such protection is alleged to have been offered.

In dealing with this same question in the course of last night's debate on the Supplementary Estimates in respect of the Gárda Síochána Vote, I quoted an extract from a police report dated the 2nd March in order that the House might know the source and nature of the information upon which the President based the statements which he made here in this connection in the course of the Adjournment Debate on March 7th. To this I need add nothing except to say that the police had reported to the Department of Justice in exactly the same sense, so far back as the 19th November, at a time when even Deputy MacDermot will acquit them of any desire or, at any rate, of any motive for distorting the facts.
