Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance Benefit.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total number of persons in each local office area in receipt of benefit under the Unemployment Assistance Act, 1933, on the first Monday in November and December, 1934, and in January and February, 1935.

I am circulating with the Official Report a table showing the total number of persons in each local office area who were paid unemployment assistance during the weeks preceding the first Monday in November and December, 1934, and in January and February, 1935.

Juvenile Advisory Committees have been established in connection with the Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Waterford Employment Exchanges and advise in relation to juvenile applicants for employment resident in the areas covered by these Exchanges. The Dublin Juvenile Advisory Committee includes representatives of Dun Laoghaire employers and workers.

The terms of reference of Juvenile Advisory Committees are to advise the Minister for Industry and Commerce with regard to the management of any Employment Exchange in their district in relation to juvenile applicants for employment (i.e. applicants under 18 years of age), and either by themselves or in co-operation with any other bodies or persons to give information, advice and assistance to boys and girls and their parents with respect to the choice of employment and other matters bearing thereon. It is not the function of a Juvenile Advisory Committee to receive registrations for employment nor to place applicants in employment. The numbers of registrations and placings of juveniles by the respective Employment Exchanges in each of the years mentioned by the Deputy were as follows:
