asked the Minister for Education whether he can state the number of (a) boys and (b) girls ceasing school attendance at the end of each term in the years 1930 to 1934 inclusive.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pupils Leaving School.
As portion of the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I am having it circulated with the Official Reports.
Following is the reply:—
The only information of this kind supplied on the school returns obtained annually by my Department is the number of pupils (boys and girls), aged 14 years or over, who cease to attend national schools during the school year. This information has been prepared for the school years ended 30th June, 1930; 30th June, 1931, and 30th June, 1933, and the figures for these years are:—
Boys. |
Girls |

School year ended 30th June, 1930 |
22,458 |
23,771 |
46,229 |

22,464 |
43,577 |

20,075 |

41,339 |
The figures for the school years ended 30th June, 1932, and 30th June, 1934, are not at present available. I am having the information prepared for the school year ended 30th June, 1934, and shall furnish the figures, when ready, to the Deputy. The value of the return for the year ended 30th June, 1932, would not be commensurate with the difficulty and labour involved in its preparation.
