Vol. 55 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Dublin Transport Facilities.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that very populous areas in Clontarf and Dollymount are without transport facilities at present and much hardship is being caused thereby and if he will at least arrange a suitable service between the Bull Wall, Dollymount, and the city.

The transport facilities at present provided by Army lorries are emergency services, limited in extent by the number of lorries available. In allocating the lorries an effort has been made to provide transport in areas in which no alternative facilities exist, and it is not possible within the scope of the present arrangements to add to the facilities already available to residents in the Clontarf and Dollymount areas.

Is the Minister aware that no alternative services exist at all for that stretch of the city between the head of the Bull Wall and the city proper? Can he offer any hope of giving even a small service that will be of assistance to elderly workers? Is the Minister aware that there is a very large population in that area, and that very great hardship is being caused at the present time owing to want of transport facilities?

I can only refer the Deputy to my reply.

The Minister, I think, ought to give some undertaking that he will consider the question further with a view to requisitioning, say, one or two additional lorries, so that he might be able to provide for the people along this extensive area, where a very large population is involved.
