Vol. 55 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Discontinuance of Unemployment Assistance Benefit in Cappawhite.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the payment of unemployment assistance was discontinued as from February 25th in the cases of William Lonergan, Cappawhite, qualification certificate No. V. 379; Patrick Ryan, Cappawhite, qualification certificate No. V. 892; Michael Carroll, Cappawhite, qualification certificate No. V. 6574; Andrew Cleary, Cappawhite, qualification certificate No. V. 4283; William Cleary, Cappawhite, qualification certificate No. V. 6677; whether payment was discontinued on the report of the local Gárda that the claimants were not genuinely seeking work; whether he is aware that the claimants offered to provide evidence to the effect that they had applied for work in the district without success, and whether he will take steps to pay their claims retrospectively.

For the reasons stated in reply to questions addressed to me by Deputy Curran on the 12th December last, I cannot, for the present and for some time to come, see my way to reply to questions relating to individual applications for unemployment assistance.
