asked the Minister for Justice if he will state in respect of the year 1934 the number of persons charged before (a) all courts other than the Military Tribunal, and (b) the Military Tribunal on criminal charges, dividing them according to the ordinary categories of criminal matters; and further if he will state in (a) and (b) respectively the number of convictions which resulted.

Dr. Ryan

The number of persons charged before all courts other than the Constitution (Special Powers) Tribunal during the year 1934 was 99,992, of whom 72,241 were convicted; 497 persons were charged before the Constitution (Special Powers) Tribunal in the same period; of these 451 were convicted. When these figures have been finally checked and the offences classified in the usual categories the results will be published with the official statistics in due course.
