Vol. 55 No. 18

Pigs and Bacon Bill, 1934—Report from Special Committee.

The following is the report of the Special Committee on the Pigs and Bacon Bill, 1934:—The Special Committee has gone through the Bill and has made amendments thereunto. The Bill, as amended, is reported to the House. I beg to move:

That the Bill, as amended in the Special Committee, and the Report and Proceedings of the Committee, be printed.

Ordered accordingly; report ordered to lie upon the Table.

When is it proposed to take the Report Stage?

I suppose that is more or less formal—it may not come up for consideration on 1st May?

Dr. Ryan

I hope it will come on during that week, anyway.

When will the report of the committee be in the hands of Deputies?

Dr. Ryan

To-morrow, I think—at least the amendments will.

I understand that the amendments will be in the hands of Deputies to-morrow. The Bill will, I presume, be circulated a few days later, that is the Bill with the amendments embodied in it.

Will we not receive the report of the committee's discussions?

Dr. Ryan

That will be issued immediately, I expect.

When may Deputies expect to receive the report of the discussions?

By Wednesday next, probably.

Probably early next week.

I submit that our consent to take the Report Stage on the 1st May will be subject to the proceedings at the committee meetings being available to Deputies at least within a week. The Minister will agree, I am sure, that the Bill is a highly technical one and in order that the main body of Deputies may be able to take an active interest in the Report Stage, it would be necessary for them to receive the report of the proceedings of the Special Committee early.
