Written Answers. - Bounty Payments.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state particulars of the bounties payable on the export of articles or products other than agricultural products on 1st April, 1935.

Bounties equivalent to the amount of the British duties, subject to a maximum bounty of 25 per cent., were payable on the 1st April, 1935, in respect of the export to the United Kingdom of the following articles or products of the type indicated by the Deputy:—

Mine and Quarry Products.

Linen and Cotton Piece Goods and Manufactures (including Embroidery Work).

Woollen and Worsted Manufactures.

Feathers and Curled Hair.

Blacking and Polishes.

Shirts, Collars and Hosiery (including Pyjamas).

Horticultural and Nursery Goods (excluding Insecticides).

Biscuits.

Jute Manufactures.

Margarine and Edible Fat (excluding Lard).

Basic Slag.

Glass Bottles.

Stained Glass Windows.

Goldsmiths' and Silversmiths' Ware.

Certain Manufactures of Wood.

Tailor-made Clothing.

Agricultural Machinery.

Brushes.

Paper (excluding Stationery).

Church, Metal and other Ornamental Metal Work.

Patent Malt.

Buoy and Beacon Lights.

Patent Mattresses, Pillows, etc.

Bog-oak Carvings, etc.

Monumental Sculpture Work.

Rosary Beads.

Cadmium Preparations.

Other small items.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state particulars of the bounties payable on the export of agricultural products in operation on the 1st April, 1935.

Bounties were payable as follows on 1st April, 1935, on the export of agricultural products:—

LIVE CATTLE—two years old and upwards

20s. per head

HORSES exported to Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

20 per cent. of the value as assessed for British Customs duty. (No bounty payable on any horse assessed as under £10 in value).

LIVE PIGS exported through Saorstát ports, with Quota Certificates.

28 per cent. ad valorem.

LIVE PIGS exported through Saorstát ports, without Quota Certificates.

CREAMERY BUTTER

An export subsidy equivalent to the sum necessary to bring the average f.o.r. price per cwt. obtained by good sellers in any market, plus the statutory bounty payable under the Dairy Produce (Price Stabilisation) Act, up to per cwt. on exports on and after 1st April, provided that the average rate of subsidy on all cre mery butter exports over the season shall not exceed 27s. per cwt.

OTHER BUTTER

An export subsidy payable on terms to be fixed by the Minister for Agriculture, varying according to the description of the butter and the market to which the butter is exported, and subject to the proviso, that the average rate of subsidy on all non-creamery butter exports over the season shall not exceed 23s. per cwt.

OTHER MILK PRODUCTS

An export subsidy payable on terms to be fixed by the Minister for Agriculture in such manner that the receipts to the producers of these commodities shall be approximately, equivalent on a milk basis to the receipts that would have been obtained by them if the milk had been utilised for the production of butter.
