Vol. 56 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vocational Education Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state for boys and girls separately the number of persons (distinguishing between those under sixteen years of age and those aged sixteen years and over) attending Vocational Education Schools during the last session for which the information is available; and if he will indicate in respect of the years 1925 to 1934, inclusive, the number of such schools in existence in each county borough, urban district and rural centre.

The answer contains a tabular statement, which will be circulated in the Official Debates. Following is the information:—

AN ROINN OIDEACHAIS—BRAINSE AN CHEÁRD-OIDEACHAIS

(DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION—TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION BRANCH).

The decrease in the figures under A is due to the fact that students from groups of centres where only Sessional Classes were held, have transferred to newly-erected Technical Schools with fuller facilities and serving a comparatively wide area. This is reflected in the increases shown in the figures under B.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state separately for rural and urban centres the number of persons (distinguishing between males and females) attending Vocational Education Schools who in the last session for which the information is available enrolled for (a) Commercial Courses; (b) Industrial Training, and (c) Cultural Studies.

The statistics relating to Vocational Education have not been compiled in such a way as to make this information readily available. These statistics show, however, that in the year ending 31st August, 1934 (the last session for which the information is available) the numbers and occupations of students in attendance at courses of instruction under schemes of Vocational Education were as follows:
